Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer. He served as the 16th President of the United States .He led the nation throughout the American Civil War.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in  Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky, he was the second child of Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He was a descendant of Samuel Lincoln, an Englishman who migrated from Hingham, Norfolk, to its namesake, Hingham, Massachusetts, in 1638.

Abraham was born into a humble family with backward parents, but still he managed to pursue self-education. He became a well-renowned lawyer, Whig Party leader, Illinois state legislator and Congressman. Although he left congress to resume his law practice. But in 1854 he re-entered into politics. He then ran for President ship in 1860 and succeeded in that. The main contribution of his winning went to southern pro-slavery elements. He proved to be a great leader. On foreign and military policy, he spoke against the Mexican-American war. Moreover, he was the first Republican president and his victory was entirely due to his support in the North and West. The leader received 1,866,452 votes. He won the free Northern states, as well as California and Oregon.

Lincoln was an en-actor of the Emancipation Proclamation who preserved the Union and had an affinity for tall hats but he also supported and said a lot about humanity, adversity, the role of government. Being a great President of America, he directed and headed his nation through the Civil war, which was the costliest war in the history of the U.S. From a simple man to a great leader, he emphasized on many important aspects. 

Abraham Lincoln was a great notable personality of history. He is one of the persons who is most respected and loved by his nation. His life autobiography is worth reading. He was the one who declared Thanksgiving Day as a National Holiday. Abraham was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on Good Friday, April 14, 1865. Booth fired at the back of Lincoln’s head, mortally wounding him. Finally on 26th April 1865, he was shot dead as he refused to surrender.
